Nova FAQ

Everything you want
to know before you commit.

No fluff. Just honest answers to the questions we get most often.

The basics
What is Nova exactly?

Nova is Quasar Media's done-for-you website product. Here's the simple version: you fill in your content through a guided online portal — your bio, your services, your photos, your contact info — and Quasar's team builds, designs, and launches your site for you.

You don't need to know anything about website design or development. You don't touch any code. You don't have to figure out hosting or domains. You answer the prompts, submit the content, and we handle everything from there.

Nova comes in two tiers — Starter (3 pages, $497 + $49/mo) and Standard (5 pages, $997 + $99/mo) — and it includes hosting, maintenance, and ongoing updates as part of your monthly plan.

In short: It's not software you buy. It's a service that delivers a finished website. There's a big difference.
How is Nova different from Squarespace or Wix?

Squarespace and Wix are tools. Nova is a service. The difference matters more than it sounds.

With Squarespace or Wix, you're buying access to a platform where you build your own site. There's a learning curve, a time investment, a lot of moving parts — and if you get stuck, you're digging through help docs. Some people love that. A lot of people stall.

With Nova, you're buying a finished website. Quasar does the building. You show up, provide your content, and leave with a site that's live.

If you genuinely enjoy building websites, Squarespace is fine. If you have a business to run, Nova is for you.

Getting started
What do I need to provide?

The content portal guides you through exactly what's needed, but here's the general list:

  • Photos or headshots (professional or high-quality phone photos)
  • A bio — a paragraph or two about who you are and what you do
  • Your services or offerings with brief descriptions
  • Contact information — phone, email, location if relevant, social links
  • Your domain name, or a decision on whether you need one

Standard plan clients also provide content for their About and Testimonials pages — client reviews, your story, team info if applicable.

The portal breaks everything into individual sections with prompts, so you're never looking at a blank page. Most people finish it in a couple of focused hours.

How long does it take?

Most Nova sites go live within 7–10 business days of content submission. The clock starts when you submit your completed content through the portal — not when you sign up.

  • Content submission is usually the longest part — take the time to get it right
  • Once we receive your content, our build timeline is consistent and tracked
  • Standard plan clients get priority queue placement — typically 5–7 business days for the build phase
  • You'll have live status tracking so you always know where your site is in the process
Need it faster? Rush builds are available in some cases. Contact us before signing up to ask about your timeline.
What if I don't have professional photos yet?

You don't need professional photography to get started. Here's what we recommend:

  • Good phone photos in decent natural light are a solid starting point
  • The portal lets you flag sections as "photos coming soon" so you can complete everything else first
  • We can discuss placeholder image options during your initial setup conversation
  • Photos can be updated after launch through your maintenance plan

That said, quality photos make a real difference. If you're a photographer, actor, or anyone who leads with their visual work, investing in a shoot before launch is worth it. Quasar also offers professional photography services — ask us about it when you reach out.

After launch
Can I make changes to my site after it launches?

Yes — and this is one of the things that makes Nova different from a DIY platform. You don't have to log into any editor or figure out how to make changes yourself.

Content updates, photo swaps, text edits, and minor layout adjustments are handled through your monthly plan. Contact us, tell us what you need changed, and we take care of it.

  • Simple updates (text, photos, contact info) — typically handled within 2–3 business days
  • More involved changes (new sections, structural changes) — scoped separately based on what's needed
  • Additional pages beyond your plan — available as an add-on
Note: Your monthly plan is designed for maintenance and updates, not ongoing redesign. If your needs evolve significantly, we can discuss upgrading your plan or a new build scope.
Pricing & plans
What's included in the monthly fee?

Your monthly plan ($49/mo for Starter, $99/mo for Standard) covers:

  • Website hosting — your site stays live, reliably, without you managing any infrastructure
  • Uptime monitoring — we're watching so you don't have to
  • Security updates and platform maintenance
  • SSL certificate management (the padlock in your browser)
  • Content updates and minor edits handled by our team
  • Domain renewal coordination (if your domain is managed through us)

No hidden fees. No surprise invoices. What you see is what you pay.

What happens if I want to cancel?

You can cancel your monthly plan at any time. There are no long-term contracts.

Here's what happens when you cancel:

  • Your site stays live through the end of your current billing period
  • After that, hosting is discontinued and your site goes offline
  • We'll give you a copy of your site files so you can take it elsewhere if you choose
  • Your domain (if registered separately) is yours — it doesn't go anywhere
One thing to know: The one-time build fee is non-refundable once your site has been built and delivered. We put real work into every Nova site and stand behind that work — which is also why we do a review round before anything goes live.
Can I upgrade from Starter to Standard?

Yes. If you start with Starter and decide you want the About and Testimonials pages added, we can scope that upgrade for you.

The upgrade fee depends on the scope of additional work — typically a fraction of the Standard build fee since your core site is already built. Your monthly rate will move to $99/mo once the upgrade is complete.

Contact us to ask about your specific upgrade and we'll put together a quote.

Domains & technical
Do you help me get a domain?

Yes. If you don't have a domain yet, we'll help you choose one and walk you through registering it. We can recommend registrars and help you find a domain that fits your name and brand.

Domain registration typically costs $10–20/year depending on the extension (.com, .co, .photography, etc.) and is billed directly through the registrar — separate from your Nova plan. There's no markup on our end.

Once you have a domain, we'll handle the technical setup — DNS configuration, connection to your hosting, everything.

What if I already have a domain?

Perfect — we'll connect it. You'll keep ownership of your domain wherever it's registered (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, wherever). We just need access to update the DNS settings, which we'll walk you through step by step.

If you have an existing site on that domain, we'll plan the migration carefully so there's no gap in your web presence. Your old site stays up until the Nova site is ready to go live.

Is this right for me?
Who is Nova NOT for?

Nova is a focused product, and we want to be straight with you about where it fits — and where it doesn't.

Nova is probably not the right fit if:

  • You need a large multi-page site (10+ pages) with complex functionality
  • You need ecommerce — a full online store with product catalogs, inventory, checkout flows
  • You need custom web applications, booking systems, member portals, or database-driven features
  • You want full control of your own site editor and plan to make constant daily changes yourself
  • Your project requires a unique custom design with no template starting point

If any of those describe your situation, Nova isn't the right tool — and we'd rather tell you now than waste your time. Reach out and we can talk through what makes sense for your project — we offer full custom web builds too.

Nova is for: Professionals, creatives, and small service businesses who need a clean, credible, professional web presence — built right, live fast, and maintained without headache.
